More Toddler boots

Okay, so I got a shoe bug going right now.  I crochet a pair of boots a week ago, now I sewed up a pair.  I just happened to have some faux suede in my fabric stash, you mean you don't?  Huh, how strange....

I wrote this whole post up, then my husband burst my bubble and told me that the boots look like paper sacks tied to her feet:(  Now this was before I added the flowers.  But my mom saved it by telling me they look like maccasins, so I am posting this and all I can say is if you want them to look less like sacks don't use brown suede:D

Well anyway since I happened to have this fabric along with a scrap left over from a pillow sham I frugally butchered into something else a few years ago, I made these boots.  Cute, right:D  I am very pleased with them.  So pleased I wish I could take credit, but I found the pattern and tutorial here.  I printed the pattern a few times and finally settled on 200% and cut the sole out on the fold as I couldn't get the whole pattern on my paper.  She says she tweaked an even older patter...so there you go, I tweaked her pattern by adding elastic around the ankle, otherwise my active toddler would walk right out of them.
How do I know this?  Well that is what happened to the crochet pair I made, went back and added elastic to those too!

Here I hand sewed the elastic casing, do this before closing off the top edge, and don't worry about being perfectly straight, but if you are OCD about it, mark you path with one of those fade away marking pens.    Also don't forget to leave a spot big enough to actually thread the elastic into the casing.  I used a small safety pin and secured on end, while threading thru the other end also with a small safety pin .  overlap and sew the ends together.  Then sew the top edges together.

I hope you enjoy the pattern as much as I have!
